This is an example “About Us” page. Most people start off with a Home Page (you can also add a “Splash Page”, or “Landing Page” as your home page… more on that later) and then you may want to add an “About Us” page that introduces yourself to visitors. We have created a few pages for you to serve as examples.
You may edit or delete any of these pages as you see fit. You may also add as many additional pages as you would like. Managing pages is easy in WordPress! To get to the page manager, go to your dashboard and click on “Pages” (or, you can click here if you’re logged in). From there it should be pretty self-explanatory.
What’s the difference between a “Post” and a “Page”? There are key differences between posts and pages in a WordPress site. Posts are entries listed in reverse chronological order for display on your blog. Posts have built-in “hooks” that help to organize your blog into categories, archives and such. Pages are static. They are not listed by date and pages do not use categories. An “About Us” page is a classic example.
Pages can also be directed to show up on your main toolbar, as your “About Us” page does (you can click here to modify your main menu or from the dashboard select Appearance->Menus). You will want to modify this page to tell people about yourself, your product or your company. It might say something like this:
Hi there! I’m a bike messenger by day, aspiring entrepreneur by night, and this is my website hosted by opportunex™. I live in Minneapolis, have a great cat named Indiana Jones, and I like scotch.
…or something like this:
The XYZ Doohickey Company was founded in 1971, and has been providing quality doohickies to the public ever since. Located in Gotham City, XYZ employs over 2,000 people and does all kinds of awesome things for the Gotham community.
If you’re a new WordPress user, you should go to your dashboard to update this page with your content and create new pages for your site. Have fun, but stay focused!
